Climate Literacy Videos

Other than reading books, watching videos and documentaries about climate change can be super helpful.

Here are some of my favorite video collections:

  1. The Brain Scoop explores research that is done in natural history museum collections, specifically at The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois. If you have not visited this museum before, they offer visuals taken inside of the museum. One exhibit that highlights the Field’s conservation work is the Abbott Hall of Conservation: Restoring Earth. They also have a featured blog about small changes that you can make in your lifestyle that’ll help save the planet.
  2. Wasted! The Story of Food Waste discusses the evident problem of food production and waste. I first encountered this film at a screening on my college’s campus which really gave me perspective on my food choices. This film opened the door for me to think about the types of foods I eat, portion sizes, and sustainable solutions like composting.
  3. Green Our Planet is an organization that hosts a school garden program. They provide videos on how-to projects and recipes (also filmed in Spanish). Check out how to make a Spring Vegetable Lentil Bowl. This bowl recipe includes mint, which is an herb that I have in my own garden! An interesting how-to project is How to Transport Seedlings in the Garden.

4. Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy provides webinars for environmental education. They have a webinar specifically about how to teach climate change for virtual classrooms and how fossils fuels have changed the Earth.

What climate videos or documentaries have you watched? What did you learn from these? Send in comments to discuss what you have found inspiring.
